The DT Business Focus Group recently organised a shopping event on the 5th December in Donegal Town. With over 55 members of the business community working together to promote Shopping Local, the event was guaranteed to be a success and it certainly was. The event was advertised in the local papers and an intense social media campaign was also ran.

Businesses all over Donegal Town posted special discounted offers to encourage people to come into Donegal Town to start their Christmas Shopping. The event included late night opening by all those taking part in the event. Many retailers who are not yet members of the group also stayed open late to take advantage of the extra shoppers in town for the evening.

During the day, all of the local primary schools were invited down to a marquee on the Diamond to sing Christmas carols and toast Marshmallows.

Several local musicians and kids joined in with many impromtu sing-a-longs over the day. As the darkness fell, the local choirs arrived and their singing rang out throughout the town adding to the sense of Christmas spirit. The local Community Chamber workers had spent several weeks getting the Christmas lights in place and the town certainly looked amazing. The local AVS secondary school kids designed and made Christmas Lanterns which added to the atmosphere.

The Leghowney Country Market came into the town for the evening and were set up in O’Donnells Car Park from 6pm to 9pm. They had a great evening with loads of goodies and local produce on sale.
